As part of the EDP, Link Inspectors will provide at least 1.5 days in total for each school per year to monitor and audit their performance and to work with them in setting targets. There is no charge to schools for this AIS work. Some schools, dependent on their categorisation by the LA, may be entitled to additional time from members of AIS without charge.

All schools can supplement the limited amount of support they receive free of charge from AIS by purchasing AIS time.

Most commonly, schools buy in AIS members to work alongside individual members of staff or else to lead whole school (or joint school) INSET. Members of AIS can provide support and advice in the areas of whole school leadership and management, and also individual curriculum areas.

Booking arrangements for AIS consultancy services

Advance Bookings

It is expected that in most circumstances schools will be able to anticipate their use of AIS staff for the coming year (or at least the coming term). In these cases, please complete Form 1 (PDF File 17KB).

This form should be signed by the headteacher and should be returned to Assistant Head of School Improvement, AIS, Glastonbury Centre. Dates for submission for requests are as shown on Form 1 (PDF File 17KB).

On receipt of the completed form, we will confirm whether we are able to allocate a member of staff to fulfil your request. The relevant member of AIS will contact the school to discuss your request and complete a School Improvement Partnership Form (Form 2) (PDF File 17KB).

The evaluation section of the School Improvement Partnership Form (Form 2) (PDF File 17KB) should be completed at the end of the Inspector’s/Adviser’s work with you and returned to Assistant Head of School Improvement, AIS, Glastonbury Centre.

In the event that we are unable to meet your request, we will endeavour to suggest alternative arrangements.

Short Notice Bookings

Occasionally a school may realise they need to use AIS staff more immediately. In these circumstances, the school should contact the member of AIS directly to arrange the times, dates etc. The School Improvement Partnership Form (Form 2) (PDF File 17KB) should still be used for both planning the work and evaluating its success.

Please note that the EMAG/EAL team, the Traveller Education Service and the Work Experience team will be circulating information about the booking arrangements for these services separately.

LA Recognised Consultants

We are pleased to include information on consultants (PDF file - 33KB) whose work we know well and who have agreed to work to similar school improvement partnership arrangements as our own.

We have a School Improvement Partnership Agreement for Recognised Consultants (Form 3) (PDF file 18KB). We are keen to expand our register of recognised consultants, so please let us know of other consultants whose work you value. Contact details are given for each consultant and you should make your arrangements directly with them.

We will be asking for feedback from any schools who have used one or more of the LA recognised consultants throughout 2007 and will request this information towards the end of November 2007.
