How does Sutton Education Business Partnership support learning?

Sutton Education Business Partnership supports schools within the Borough with Work Related Learning activities or projects. The aim of Sutton EBP is to develop appropriate links with the business community for the benefit of enhanced curriculum and classroom practice.

Since September 2004 all secondary schools have to offer a programme of Work Related Learning and Enterprise for students at Key Stage 4 and 5 (14-19) to provide students with the opportunities to develop their knowledge, understanding and experience of the world of work and enterprise.

The way that Sutton EBP supports schools is through a number of activities, most of which depend upon involvement from local business and companies. For example:

Work experience placements

• 5 or 10 day placements
• Extended placements (usually one, two or three days per week) over a term or longer
• Work Shadowing
• Taster days

Information about careers in different vocational areas and industries

• Small group workshops
• Careers talks
• Visits to the work place

Support with work related learning

• Health and Safety talks
• Practice interviews
• Work Experience de-brief
• Enterprise activities

Teaching and non-teaching CPD opportunities

A cornerstone for enhancing staff development is through Professional Development Placements or PDPs. These can be:

• Bespoke or “Tailor made” – to meet the specific requirements of an individual
• Group – for a number of staff set within a particular industry or setting
